Main idea

Major idea:  How does the transportation affected people during Industrial Revolution

Transport during the Industrial Revolution changed very quickly, it went from walking to places to getting the train. The growth of travel increased as soon as things like trains were invented. These changes happened in stages, first of all the roads were improved, then canals were invented and finally Railways were developed. These things all had one thing in common; they shortened travel times over longer distances. The growth of the Industrial Revolution depended on the ability to transport raw materials and finished goods over long distances. There were three main types of transportation that increased during the Industrial Revolution: waterways, roads, and railroads. Transportation was important because people were starting to live in the West.(http://wiki.answers.com/Q/How_did_transportation_change_during_the_Industrial_Revolution#page1)(http://www.industrialrevolutionresearch.com/industrial_revolution_transportation.php)

Joseph Montgolfier

Hot Air Ballon: Joseph Montgolfier and his younger bother Jacques, both who worked in the paper industry, would invent and launched the very first hot air balloon in 1783 in the City of Annonay, France. They were able to get this thing off the ground with nothing but hot air feeding it and keep it in the air for up to ten minutes long. A few months later, they would test the balloon again and put a duck, a sheep and a rooster in the carrying box of the balloon, and surprisingly they garnered an abundant amount of success.(http://invention.yukozimo.com/who-invented-hot-air-balloons/)

Cornelis Jacobszoon Drebbel

Submarine: Cornelis Jacobszoon Drebbel was the Dutch builder of the first navigable submarine in 1620. Drebbel was an innovator who contributed to the development of measurement and control systems, optics and chemistry.(http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cornelis_Drebbel)

Richard Trevithick

Trains: In 1804, the first steam powered train would be invented by a man named Richard Trevithick. About 10 years later, another man named George Stephenson would create what is known as the Blucher, the very first train of its kind meant for railway service.(http://invention.yukozimo.com/who-invented-the-train/)

George Stephenson

Motorcycle

German, Gottlieb Daimler invented the first gas-engined motorcycle in 1885, which was an engine attached to a wooden bike. That marked the moment in history when the dual development of a viable gas-powered engine and the modern bicycle collide.

However, inventors such as William Harley and the Davidsons brothers continued to develop motorcycles and their business competitors were other new start-up companies such as Excelsior, Indian, Pierce, Merkel, Schickel and Thor. In 1903, William Harley and his friends Arthur and Walter Davidson launched the Harley-Davidson Motor Company. The bike had a quality engine, so it could prove itself in races, however, the company planned to manufacture it as a transport vehicle. Merchant, C. H. Lange, sold the first officially distributed Harley-Davidson in Chicago.
